LES MISERABLES trailer

What a year for movie adaptations, AMIRITE? So gather your tissues and watch this shiz. Then we'll have a chat. I'll wait.

Ok, so is your heart all over the floor in a puddle of your snot and tears? Excellent. ANNE HATHAWAY FOR THE WIN, huh? She's a little pitchy but it seems to work with the emotional aaarrrrgghhh of the song. And Russell Crowe as Javert? YES PLEASE THEY'RE BOTH ASSHOLES. I'm a bit hmmmm *shifty eyed* about Mr. Muscles McGee (known to lesser mortals as Hugh Jackman), especially since his acting chops are nowhere close to Liam Neeson's (though his real chops might be).

Otherwise, I think it looks like a fan-frickin' tastic movie. Annnnndddd I may be abandoning my Summer of Re-Reading list so I can re-read Les Miserables.

TAKE SOME NOTES, BAZ. TAKE SOME FRACKIN' NOTES.

What say ye, movie/book goers?

  1. I can.not.wait for this movie.
I was thinking of re-reading Les Miserables as well sometime before the movie's release -- care to do a read-along?

  2. Since it's my favourite book, I'm both freakin' excited (like OH MY GREAT GOD LE MISERABLES! I HAVE TO ANNOY ALL MY FRIENDS ABOUT IT!) and scared as hell - I don't want it to be horrible. I want it to be fantastic. The trailer seems good, but I've decided I'll try to avoid any kind of prejudice and I'll comment just after seeing the movie - also because trailers can be a lot better, or a lot worse, than the movie itself :)

P.S. I don't think I've ever commented before, so... let me say I love your blog. A lot.

    1. Welcome to commenterville! It's where the cool kids hang.

Also, as long as the movie is as FEEL ALL THE FEELINGS as the trailer, I'll be happy.

But be warned! We've already read the first 500 pages or so.

Oh, and the trailer looks super-awesome. Although I'm in a feud with Amanda Seyfried (hours and hours of Mamma Mia. Forced.)this seems to really capture the books's spirit. Maybe it could even make up for the impending Gatsby-disaster?

  4. Maybe I need to abandon any other books to read and finally settle down with Les Mis.

  5. I like this even more seeing the trailer. Even though questionable girl (seyfried) isn't shown singing in it (she was horrible in Mama Mia I thought).

The entertainment reporter this morning said that the actors actually did all the singing on set during filming, and not dub in singing from the studio that's been polished and cleaned. That's probably why its a little pitchy. But I like the sound of it.

  6. Don't know if you saw, but I reviewed (kind of) The Great Gatsby trailer today.

Then, of course, I see this. She's definitely pitchy, and I'm nervous, but wow. What a ton of great movies coming in the fall.

  7. Weird coincidence... I had just finished reading this and was about to watch the trailer on my phone, and Eric started watching it on his computer. This movie looks amazing. I am definitely looking forward to this one.

    1. Oh, and Les Mis is waiting on my TBR pile. I'd be happy to join in a read-along when you decide to start reading it.

  8. This looks a whole lot better than that mess of the new Great Gatsby movie.

  9. Eagerly awaiting! Like Hugh Jackman but was thinking more Ewan McGregor for Jean Valjean. Mostly because I like to think of Ewan McGregor in anything. But yes! Russell Crowe! Perfect as Javert. Wonder if he gets to throw a telephone at Jean?

  10. I am definitely down with a summer Les Mis read. I'm thinking July? Perhaps I'll host a sumpinsumpin? I'll let you know.

  11. I'm in for Les Mis this summer too! I've always wanted to read it.

  12. I'm all in for a summer read-along of Les Mis too. It's on my list of books to read this year - I've never read it before so it's perfect timing with the movie coming out. The trailer looks great but I have nothing to judge it against. So yeah, let's have a read-along!

  13. Reading list too long. Life expectancy too short (nothing tragic, just time). But might be time for a re-read - it's been years, and when I say years - nevermind. Have to throw in a Great Gatsby, while I'm at it. Good thing I've given up growing tomatoes.

  14. I'm hoping that with all these movie adaptation trailers coming out all of a sudden, we'll get the Great Expectations one soon!!! I can't wait...and did you know that the guy who plays Pip is related to Dickens? RELATED TO DICKENS I SAY!!

I've never commented before, but I've been lurking for a while- your blog is just great!

  15. My absolute favorite musical and loved the book, but it's been about 15 years since I've read it. I agree might be time for a reread. Russell Crowe should make a great Javert!

  16. Hate the musical, love the book.
    Can't wait for the movie.

  18. Shame it's a musical--I'd prefer a literary adaptation.

On Great Expectations, the 1946 film version is a must-see, really really beautifully filmed. It cannot be topped.

  19. Hugh Jackman was in this awesome version of Oklahoma! I saw and I wa thoroughly impressed with his voice. So he's not new to musicals, is what I'm saying (acknowledging of course the STARK difference in moods between the two). I'm generally stoked.

  20. Oh my God! I can't wait! Les Miserable was my first musical - 7th grade field trip to see it on Broadway and I've loved it ever since.
